Carter Lee is a bassist/educator/producer. He is originally from Edmonton, Canada and now resides in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to leading the hip-hop group, Tiger Speak, Lee is the music director for the bands of both Shea Rose and Moruf. He is also a sideman for countless other artists. Electronic music is arguably the most international genre, its basic forms and sounds able to be infinitely adapted to a variety of different influences and contexts. In this article we’re shining a light on five of the most exciting and experimental electronic artists in the Middle East right now. Engage with what’s here not as a novel “difference” from the mainstream, but rather as a sign of the future where music-making is interconnected and accessible to more people than ever before.

John Belushi struck up a relationship with Fear after becoming a quick fan seeing them on another TV show and commissioned them to write a song for the movie Neighbors. The band, however, wrote the song for Belushi himself to sing, which he recorded reluctantly. The movie’s producers refused to use it, but Belushi still wanted to do right by Fear, so he booked them on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest for the Halloween Special in 1981.

Logic Pro X has a number of built-in templates based on genre which can be a helpful starting point but always feel free to customize to your own needs. As you continue working on different projects, you’ll naturally start making personalized templates to prep for sessions. Jeremy is a Montreal-based musician, sound artist and improviser who loves giving advice to emerging artists on how to make their tours more effective. He writes, records and performs electroacoustic “concrète” music for tape, oscillators and amplified objects and surfaces, as well as solo guitar. He has performed and released material throughout Europe and the UK, Asia, the US and Canada, mostly with his trio Sontag Shogun.

In his new book Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise, which is excerpted here, Dr. Ericsson and his co-author Robert Pool argue that the best practice habits, what they call “purposeful practice,” involve specific goals, focus, feedback, and leaving your comfort zone; all of which are incorporated into Soundfly’s unique online learning model.

Ethan Hein is a Doctoral Fellow in Music Education at New York University. He teaches music technology, production and education at NYU and Montclair State University. With the NYU Music Experience Design Lab, Ethan has taken a leadership role in the creation of new technologies for learning and expression, most notably the Groove Pizza. He is the instructor of the free Soundfly course series called Theory for Producers. He maintains a widely-followed and influential blog, and has written for various publications, including Slate, Quartz, and NewMusicBox.

Alex is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer from Sydney, Australia. He founded the post-rock band sleepmakeswaves, with which he has toured Asia, America, Europe and Australia. In his spare time he writes music for short films, produces bands and subsists on altogether too much coffee. Alex is the instructor of the free Soundfly course, Live Clicks and Backing Tracks.
